The Rotary Club of Moorpark hosted its second annual Run So Others Can Walk race and walk Sunday morning. The event raises money to help end polio worldwide.

Eradication of the disease is one of Rotary International’s main focuses and each year, local Rotarians travel to nations where the disease is still present to help vaccinate children, meet with health experts and government officials and advocate for eradication.

Sunday’s event consisted of 5K and 10K races and a 1K family fun run/walk. The 5K and 10K race courses, which began and ended at Cutler Ranch in Moorpark, have been sanctioned by the USA Track and Field Association.

Moorpark, CA – The Rotary Clubs of Moorpark are excited for its second annual polio run, “Run So Others Can Walk,” which will be held on December 4th at 8:00 am, at the Cutler Oak Run Ranch in Moorpark. This event features a 5K and 10K run with a one mile Family Fun Walk.

The run will help raise awareness and funds for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which has been a primary effort for Rotary since 1987. Rotary International works alongside its partners, the Gates Foundation, UNICEF, CDC, and WHO, in helping to eradicate polio from the world. Each year a number of local Rotarians from Ventura County travel to polio-endemic nations such as India to take part in a National Immunization Day where they vaccinate children, meet with health experts
and government officials, and address the press, advocating this global health campaign. District 5240, which encompasses Ventura County, has been one of the most active districts worldwide in the campaign against polio and has ranked in the top 5 globally for its financial contributions to the initiative. The funds raised from this event will go to the Global Polio Eradication Initiatives. This includes a 100% of the proceeds.

The course was designed by ranch owner Jody Cutler and race director Matt Miguelena, who has 20 years of experience racing both nationally and internationally. Both courses, the 5K and 10K, have recently been sanctioned by the USA Track and Field Association as well, and boast stunning views from anywhere along the course.

We welcome the entire community, residents of Ventura County, students, fellow Rotarians- to join us for this annual event. Last year’s run garnered over 45 runners and helped raised 2500 dollars.

For more details on the run or to sign up, please visit our website, http://www.moorparkpoliorun.com. Or you can find us on the Moorpark Rotary club website

Any questions or requests interviews can be sent to Matt Miguelena at (805) 300-2426 or via email at miglet05@yahoo.com
